I like tinkering on quads. Not the best pilot, but always learning.

@jfpoulin That has pretty much been my approach to wings thus far. Never build one, no idea how they work, but they look neat and I'll probably just give it a try sometime.

They do not smudge once dried, it turns in to a hard smooth layer. It does not peel off unless scratched, and it is an quick fix if it does. I think adding a layer of nail varnish might make it more resistant to damage, I might give this a try.

I also have a proper 10 inch on the to-do list, I already have the frame and have been making a part list for it, it will be specced similarly to yours.

What exactly did you have to change to the stock configuration? I have seen videos of people building a 10" who then had issues with fly aways the moment it was armed, but they never explained what they did to fix it. My guess would be filters?

I highly recommend Edding Industry Paint Makers (The 8750 ones specifically) for painting frames. The colours are very bright and it will stick to almost anything. They are a bit on the pricey side for a marker, but totally worth it.

Was on a walk with the dog a few days ago, I encountered someone flying a little camera drone, so of course I walked up to have a chat. Turned out it was someone who crashed their new DJI Neo in to a tree and was trying to get it out with another drone, he launched it from underneath a tree and when doing an automatic return to home it flew straight in to it.

We exchanged phone numbers just in case he was unable to get it out and I offered to give it a try with a big 5 inch the next day if he was unsuccessful.

So the next day I took my 5 inch to the spot and gave it a try myself to see if I could get the Neo unstuck from tree. I did not do any preflight checks and just packed up my drone, and of course the video transmitter had died (I suspect due to a bad cable causing it to fry itself, I had done an antenna upgrade no too long ago and never properly tested it afterwards), so I had to go all the way back home just to grab another drone.

Back at the spot again I prepared the drone with an extra heavy battery and duct-taped a 40cm antenna to the front of the drone which I could use as a poker or to grab on to a branch without risking my own drone.

I flew up, slowly approached the branch it was stuck on, and pounced on it like a cat. It immediately dropped.

The owner was overjoyed to get his drone back. Turns out he was an IT teacher from a local college who was intending to use this drone to record some footage for the college website to advertise their drone operator courses. Next year a couple of local colleges will start offering courses for drone operators for stuff like off-shore and agricultural use cases, I just think that is very neat.

All ELRS receivers work the same. To set a bind phrase, just turn it on and wait 1 minute, the LED of the ELRS module will start blinking rapidly and a Wi-Fi network called ExpressLRS RX will appear. Connect this Wifi network, then using your browser navigate to 10.0.0.1. In the web UI you can then set a bind phrase.

For the Radiomaster Pocket, press the SYS key, then under Tools select the ExpressLRS option, navigate down and open "WiFi connectivity", then select "Enable WiFi". A network called ExpressLRS TX will appear, do the same as above.

When you ever get any new drones or a new radio, you can just input the same bind phrase again and all your hardware will then just work with each other without having to go through any binding procedures.

It is indeed stock except for the antenna. It flies like a brick unless paired with an Ampace JP30, the Sony VTC6 I find to be limiting its performance.

I am considering upgrading the engines to something with a bit more torque, it is currently running 1202.5, I might try upgrading those to 1203.

If a motor upgrade works out well I'll likely also install a separate ELRS RX to improve the range, although up until now I have never had any issues with the stock SMT antenna.

I really like using it for just cruising with its 10+ minute flight time.

Did a little antenna upgrade to the Rekon 3, now I am waiting for the weather to improve to give it a spin.
