Haha thanks man :). I thought i'd send out a message after watching Stews stream yesterday as I know there are plenty of pilots around the London area, it's just getting that broadcast out.

I have just checked the map and have noticed that there are 40 pilots registered around the London area.

If you are looking for a club to fly with and to meet new people, please drop me a message.

I am involved with running the clubs HTWC and SGDC. HTWC is the biggest whoop-focused club in the UK and SGDC is the biggest FPV racing club in the UK. If you are looking to fly with someone, I can absolutely put you in contact with people.

This is a weekend whoop race that HTWC ran including camping options at an extremely reasonable price.

Looking to get into race directing but you don't have the pennies to buy expensive equipment? This video is for you!

It uses QR codes to track when you go through gates, and is communicated to the free software FPVTrackside:

No probs man :). Race directing can be a rabbit hole so it's always good to have someone who can explain it to you.

So i did a breakdown of costs, as well as alternative options.

So for the key gear this is how much each cost:
Raspberry pi 5 - £80
nuclearhazard fission box - £50
rx5808 - £15 per node (8 max)
computer - £200
portable monitor - £100
hdzero event vrx - £650
multiviewer - £25
router - £32
Capture card - £10

So a total of £1267, but that has been accumulated over the years of first getting into race directing.

The "nice to haves" cost:
ammo can - £30
wireless speaker - £70
projector - £50
powerbank - £70

A total of £220

If you only plan on using analogue, you can replace the hdzero event VRX with a hawkeye foureyes and completely remove the multiviewer:

So that would knock off £475, making the total £792. Of course if you have a laptop hanging around (it doesn't need to be powerful), that would knock another £300 off the cost.

If people are thinking of getting into race directing and want to dip their toes cheap, there is also a single node lap timer called the "solohazard" https://www.printables.com/model/824422-rotorhazard-box-for-individual-fpv-timer

The cost of a solohazard is:
pi zero 2 w - £23
arduino nano - £6
rx5808 - £15 (1 only)

You can then set the solohazard to broadcast a wifi hotspot and connect to it. It functions just like a nuclearhazard fission, it just supports only 1 pilot. Pair it with a skydroid VRX for £55 for analogue, or if your goggles support it then do HDMI out from your goggles to a capture card.

And I believe one of the trackside developers are based in the states at least. Speaking to Wade and Charlito of five33 have mentioned they are in close proximity of a trackside developer.

Apologies for the crude video, but this is an explanation of all the things in the race case that i had posted prior.

There's still some bits to add to the race case (just external ports like power, ethernet, HDMI and antennas), however it should give you an idea on how everything is set up.

Pretty sure they need to be purchased direct from HDZero due to the price of them.

For anyone wondering how it all works, I'll make a video that explains all the kit and how it works.

In the meantime if you're curious, a buddy of mine was on Evan Turners channel and is a really good watch:

The event VRX picks up upto 4 pilots video feeds as long as they are analogue or HDZero. Those 4 feeds go to a multiviewer which combines them into 1 feed, then it spits out the combined image over HDMI to a capture card to use when race directing.

In regards to picking up lap times, I use a box called the "nuclearhazard fission" timer. That is placed next to the start/finish, and reads the output strength of video feeds. When a pilot passes the start/finish, the signal spikes and thats what determines when you've done a lap.

Yeah no problem! Once it's built I'll do a video on all the kit used to run races.

In regards to the software I use its called fpv trackside. Ive done a walk through on 10 qualifying rounds into triple finals including the settings.

Currently building a race case for whoop racing. It's a pelican case that houses everything to race direct, all you need to do is plug in a power cable and you're away!

I have the travel router coming tomorrow, then this weekend it'll be drilling and mounting everything.

This is the placement of all the kit so far, minus the screen.

After months of back-and-forth and finding a venue, we finally have one!

For anyone in the area surrounding Basingstoke in the UK, we have finally secured a venue and whoop racing is a-go! 8:00pm-10:00pm, it's a relaxed fun fly where you make the night your own.

Pretty happy with this velocidrone race. Finally managed to tweak out the rate expo to a position where the Quad felt like how i wanted it to respond.
